A closer view of the Great Slab. In this picture, the ceiling at the top of the slab is quite apparent. We named the ceiling and the overhanging section above it, "The Overseer." As the month wore on, it actually became fairly oppressive to have this huge overhang lurking overhead all the time. Wings of Steel ascends the middle of the slab, staying very close to the main, black water streak. The slab is bounded by two other climbs: Dihedral Wall is the obvious crack system on the right margin of the slab, and Aquarian Wall works up the left side of the slab (its featured aren't visible in this photo). Two teams of Irate climbers ascended Aquarian wall while we were low on the slab. This put them in "bombing" position over us, and they took advantage of this fact by repeatedly dropping their garbage and bags filled with human defecation down onto us. Mark and I tried to stay sane by joking about how we would need to develop a "Mad Bolter Canopy" to keep the crap (literally) off of us for future routes.
